Well, hello 2020 pandemic lockdown. We weren't expecting you but here you are anyway. What to do in these dark times? Escape into dark literature, obviously. Allow me to help ...
Hi! I'm Katy Darby, Director of Liars' League (London) and author of unfeasibly long, yet-to-be-published Victorian second novels (my first novel, published by Penguin, is here, if you like what you hear of the novella). Back in the long hot summer of 2018 I wrote a Gothic, Victorian, M. R. Jamesian novella inspired by the Wenhaston Doom (below) along with Suffolk’s mythical hairy wild men, the Wodewose, and some other local legends. I’m going to spend some lockdown time editing it, and one of the best ways to do that is to read it aloud.
Waste not want not, though - so I’ll be recording the chapters as I read them and putting the recordings up here every day (see below) until it’s done. Part 1 was released at 9pm on Tuesday 31st March. It's 26 minutes long. I found a crackling fireplace and rain sound effect for background atmos, get me!
Here's the link to the podcast of the whole series so far: it should work if you click Play under the wild man image - let me know if not.

Each section is between 20-30 min long, so not too hard on the ears. Feel free to spread this around like ... well, like we're all trying really hard not to spread Corona virus. Happy listening!
